Imran Khan is the name of national sentiments and emotions. There is hardly anyone who hadn’t heard of this name: Imran Khan!
Imran Khan is the political entrepreneur of Pakistan in true sense. He was one of the first to think of youth as the greatest asset of Pakistan. He is famous to hold very unconventional political views in Pakistan. He did unwavering effort to bring the youth of Pakistan into politics and influenced them to bring INQALAB in the country. And his effort bore him great results and the youth of Pakistan did wake up to support his cause.
As the cause of INQALAB took the heat and became popular, the youth rose up to stand by Imran Khan. In the former elections, Pakistan youth ardently supported Imran Khan. As a token of showing support, they changed their timelines to represent Change in Pakistan initiated by Imran Khan. They even wore shirts with his face to display a great validation for him.
However, many opponents have claimed Imran Khan’s decision of ‘Azadi March’ as politically unwise, untimely and egoistic but senior party leaders claim they have considered all pros and cons.
Asad Umar, the law maker from Islamabad and former corporate executive, said that Imran told him about the AZADAI MARCH on a meeting on 11 May. He said that Imran khan told him that if nothing happens then there is a dire need of a long March. He claimed that he was in support of this decison the reason being that if the reason was not attained for which the party was formed than it was pointless. He remarked,
“We had a rally in Faisalabad where we gave time to the government to open four constituencies but our demands were ignored. In the next Bahawalpur rally, we finally announced the march but the government still took us lightly”, Asad said. “It was not at all a decision of personal ego, or for power. Yes, there was a feeling that the government was ignoring us but it was all political and nothing personal”.
Imran Khan and his supporters appear to be very resentful and fed up with the Government and the political setup. This frustration can be seen in one of the statements of Saifullah Niazi,
“We had been working hard since the party came into being, but even after having a government in one of the provinces, the change is still missing. This is the frustration, youth is pressurising us and asking where is the change?”
Niazi is the chief organizer of Azadi March and appeared to be overstrained. He is among founding members of the party and won Imran’s trust during a nationwide tour to strengthen the party at the gross roots level.
However the youth seems to be very much emotional about Imran Khan. They are deeply moved by the cause Imran Khan is working for and they believe that Imran Khan s the only hope of Pakistan. Today while in a rally in Zaman Park Lahore, many people sprang up to show their support for him.
Imran Khan had pledged to topple down the corruption of PML-N government by the Azaadi March. He accused the PML-N government of rigging and said that those who were against rigging were victimized and attacked.
“They say there is no corruption, but they know the art of corruption. Look at the Nandipur project as an example. Their development advertisements alone have cost the country Rs10 million,” he said. “If I am told there is rigging in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, I will order re-election. I am confident we will have a bigger victory”.
Imran Khan seems to be possessed with the idea of bring INQALAB into Pakistan despite all the hindrances and obstacles in his quest for change. He says that he is no longer afraid of anything standing between him and his mission. And he claimed that he would never give up no matter what the case.
Khan asserted that no one could thwart the great flow of people on August 14 and warned the civil servants and police not to obey illegal orders of the rulers, saying no police official should act as a personal servant of Sharifs. “The Punjab police should act as the police of the country and not as the police of a family” he said. He alleged that the PTI march would be peaceful.
Imran Khan seems to be undaunted by the possibility of a military intervention. Khan placed the responsibility on Nawaz Sharif if in case his supporters and police ended up in violent clashes.
Imran Khan is the first leader to defy the traditional ways of the political setup. People believe him to be the last hope of Pakistan. Many hopes are hinging on the the long march waiting to be upheld on 14 August. However the question is that whether Imran Khan would be able to bring CHANGE in Pakistan. It depends on the youth eventually. If they are determined enough, together they can make a difference.
There is an interesting story about Imran khan told by Riaz Khan, one of his drivers which reflects the state of mind Imran Khan is in. “Some years back, while driving somewhere, I noticed Imran Khan’s jacket was torn from the shoulder”
Riaz said. “I pointed it out.”
Imran Khan frowned and snapped back.
“You have your eyes on my jacket,” Imran said.
“My eyes are on the county’s future, ten years ahead!!!”
