Suicide itself arouses a feeling of empathy for the victims or question inner self why the teenagers going astray? The answer is as convoluted as the question. No one can exactly foretell the impulsive yet perplexed thoughts of today’s youth.According to many reports, everyone once in a life has a thought of ending his life due to disoriented situations. It has been discovered that youth account for 80% of the total suicide cases in the world. Is this life so uninteresting and monotonous? Did our forefathers passed satisfactory and lucid life and we are somewhat living a cursed life?
Let us have a look on some of the causes why suicide feelings are induced in teenagers in our country:
1. Bullying And Peer Pressure
As we know that bullying is much more common and practiced than it was way back when. Kids in their young age, entering high level tend to experience quite more bullying than usual. From pranks to name calling few teens can be really malicious people – pushing the other to the extreme end. Teens who are bullied usually feel low and their confidence and self respect is beaten down to the minimum. They feel valueless and incapable of anything creative and constructive. This actually compels them to imagine and think that their life is a greatest disaster and worthless and consequently no longer have the desire to live. Mostly they work into acute depressions and hence end up by committing suicide!!
2. Mental Sickness
Extreme depression, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder and some other disorders trigger and affect the brain to function in a different way than usual and lead to negative thoughts that ultimately result in suicide. Many teenagers with mental sickness don’t feel appropriate in society and so consider themselves abandoned. That is one of the many reasons that people with mental illness commit suicide. Annoyance and disappointment with themselves and the people and the dilemma they have fitting in usually lead them to take call it an end.Mental disorders should be identified early on and so treatment is necessary, but we can see that sometimes even that doesn’t work. It’s really heart-rending to watch.
Some teenagers are the victims of domestic abuse. Over the many years they have been mentally and physically abused by one or their family members. It has a extensive destructive effect on people. Sometimes if they are not targets they are witnesses to acts of domestic violence, which has an equally damaging effect on people. A lot of the time the abusers blame the teens for whatever may be wrong – big or small. To believe that they are the actual cause of each and every problem in their household can be extremely humiliating for the person. Some survive to have healthy adult lives, some go on to experience more violence from their spouses in the future; others decide to end their lives there and then, believing no good can ever come from their existence.
4. Sex Orientation
Mostly in the teenage years kids come to terms with their sexuality and there are many hurdles involved. Firstly, a lot of teens have a rather crucial time period to determine their sexuality. Once they do, realize that they are lesbian, bisexual, gay or whatever other sexuality they fit themselves in comes with its own set of difficulties. There is the serious problem of telling peers and friends who turn on the person sometimes ridicule and mock them. When we look through at present situation there are some of the supportive people you can have during a time like this in one’s life. But now-a- days the major issue occurs with parents and family, their attitude is not understanding and welcoming about their child’s sexual orientation. This creates a lot of stress and anxiety on the child and “coming out” that already took so much courage is now being pummeled.
5. Alcohol And Drug Abuse
Actually in the teen years people get to know the effects of drugs and alcohol. What just starts out as experimenting converts into an immense addiction. Being impressionable and youthful, these teenagers incited and provoked by their friends usually find it really difficult to kick the addiction. Some tend to go overboard this is when they overdose and most do not survive. With alcohol their internal organs and liver start failing till one by one they end slowly end up taking their own lives. Some overdose on drugs and alcohol because of their various problems at home or in school – not everyone comes equipped to handle tough situations.
6.Divorce Of Parents
Teenagers and kids have a typical tendency to think that everything that is going wrong in the life of a loved one, they are the cause of it. When parents have issues and decide to give divorce they are sometimes made to believe that they are the cause of it or even they aren’t told that they come to that conclusion. Thus in taking their life they assume that their parents will be happy or happier without them around.
7. Emotional Negligence
We better know this harsh reality that parents these days appeared to be deeply involved in their own social circle and life, with no interest concern for their young children. In doing this negligence they sometimes overlook the signs of suicide. Emotional neglect cause the teenager children to feel hopefulness and loneliness. It compels them to feel like their presence makes no difference and if they were to commit suicide no one would notice their absence.
8. Sexual Harrasment
Many teenagers grow up and suffer the trauma of sexual harassment, some undergo sexual abuse later in their teens. Whatever the cause is, indecent assault has long lasting physical damages; it is intensely emotionally destructive as well. With such unbearable and unimaginative pain, the person gets forced to take his own life. In places like INDIA, the rape victim also becomes the community’s outcast. Being raped is already more damaging and doesn’t need to the added baggage of society’s hypocrisy!!
9. Online Social Cruelty
We live in such an advanced society where technology captures most of our time. Between social media websites, mobile phones and online gaming, teenagers today seem to have much more outlets for interacting with each other virtually than they do for interacting with each other in person. Teenagers that are targeted are likely to experience depression, loneliness, anxiety, poor sleep. Hence Cyberbullying greatly increases the chances of suicide. Teens that are continuously tormented by cyber bullies through instant messaging, text messages social media often begin to feel hopefulness. Consequently they may begin to fantasize about ending their life in order to escape their tormentors.
10. Great Burden Of Studies
High pressure at school, college to achieve good grades and pick a career at such a young age agitates teens and becomes too much for them after a certain point. This extreme pressure is intensified by parents and members of family to live up to a particular standard. It is not easy to maintain this attitude because we know that everyone is blessed with different likings and talents. When the stress gets uncontrollable teenagers decide to give up and commit suicide.
The ingredients to lead a life are cheerfulness, anger, exasperation, frustration, love, care, regrets. Without despair and hardships, life would extremely dull and monotonous. Thriving after so many rejections brings joy more than an easy escape towards success. So, before you take the plunge towards the end, have a thought about your dear ones and the blissful moments with them!!!
